CPR & AED Training
This non-certificated one and a half hour training is offered free of charge to anyone who wants the know-how to carry out Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation effectively. Training notes will be given.

First Aid Courses
Level 1 First Aid
A two-day course presented by Gardmed organised by Coastal Kindness.
Course language: English
A glossary will be provided in Afrikaans and Xhosa.
This comprehensive course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling participants to:
- Prevent accidents through the development of a safety-oriented lifestyle
- Recognise when first aid is needed
- Provide first aid treatment at the scene of an accident or sudden illness with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way until emergency medical services arrive, if needed.
This course is the minimum required training needed by employers to comply with Regulation 3(4) of General Safety Regulations of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, 1993.
Course content: A wide range of subjects is covered including:
- Principles of first aid and safety
- Examination of the patient
- Choking
- Shock, unconsciousness and fainting
- Burns
- Emergency scene management
- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Wounds and bleeding
- Fractures
- Head and spinal injuries
- Transport methods
Certification:
Subject to passing the assessments participants will be issued with a FIRST AID LEVEL ONE (1) certificate approved by the Department of Labour.
This qualification is valid for three (3) years and can be renewed by attending a suitable one (1) day re-qualification course.
Level 3 First Aid (First Responders)
First Aid Course – Level 3 (MEDICAL FIRST RESPONDERS)
A four-day course presented by Gardmed organised by Coastal Kindness.
Requirement: Grade 9 educational level or equivalent.
Course language: English
This course is designed to provide the participant with a more extensive medical knowledge with greater emphasis being placed on medical emergencies, other conditions and situations that are not covered in the Level 1 training.
This course is ideal for someone who wants more information to treat a greater range of patients, team leaders of workplace emergency response teams and/or someone wanting to enter the medical profession, be it medical, paramedical, nursing, physiotherapy etc.

- Behavioural emergencies
- Applied anatomy and physiology
- Emergency scene management
- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Wounds and bleeding
- Musculo-skeletal injuries – fractures and joints
- Head and spinal injuries
- Medical emergencies – diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, anaphylaxis, cardiac problems
- Environmental illnesses and injuries
- Emergency childbirth
- Transport methods
Certification:

Basic Home Care
Introduction to Basic Home Care
This practical non-certified five session course is specifically aimed at home helpers and carers who need training in basic home care for the elderly in a domestic situation.

Mental Health First Aid Training Course
This three-hour training course is designed to equip participants with foundational knowledge and practical tools to respond appropriately and confidently to mental health crises in their communities.
Who should attend: Community members, family members, carers, medical first responders, counsellors.
